Wrinkle Therapy

There are two major types of injectables used to improve cosmetic appearance – injectable fillers and injectable muscle relaxants. Injectable fillers are used in procedures known as soft-tissue augmentation, which involves injecting a substance into the skin in order to plump-up the area being treated. Injectable fillers can help to fill out and smooth wrinkles. The areas most frequently treated with fillers include nasal furrows (naso-labial folds), deep smile lines and the lips. Treatments usually last from 3 to 6 months and normal activities can generally be resumed immediately following injections.

Injectable muscle relaxants work by relaxing the wrinkle-causing muscles that cause people to frown or squint creating an improved appearance. Once the muscle is relaxed, you cannot contract it and continue to make the undesirable facial expression. Thus, the lines gradually smooth and new lines are prevented from forming. After injection it takes 2 to 3 days for the treatment to begin taking effect and around 7 days to see the full effect. Treatments can last up to 4 months.

Usually the side effects of these treatments are temporary and localised to the area of injection. The different types of injectables have different side effects, however in general possible side effects include swelling, pain, burning, bruising or redness at the injection site. For more information consult your doctor.

Both types of injectables are available only from a medical practitioner. It is best to consult the cosmetic physician, to discuss your individual case. The doctor will help you to make decisions based on your age, skin condition, expectation and overall health.

Note: A $50 Consultation Fee applies for Injection Therapy services. This fee is refunded if you decide to go ahead with your treatment.
